Test Message

I'm testing updating my blog through the power of email. Ain't technology brilliant?

Windows Live Messenger just got better. Find out more!

First post

To start things off here, I'm posting my FIRST post from my blog:

Okay, I've put off starting this blog until I've got something semi-concrete to blog about... I've decided to go for an easy one to start off with: My Wishlist. There are a few games coming out over the next few months I'm really looking forward to, so I figured I might as well list them here:

  • Lego Batman
  • Mirror's Edge
  • X3: Terran Conflict
  • and, of course, Fallout 3.

All but one of these I'm aiming to get on PC... The real test is going to be FO3. There has been a major trend in the past 5 years of simplifying games; I'm in two minds about this. On the one hand, it has definitely made games more accessible. I know more people who've played Deus Ex 2: Invisible War than who've played the original Deus Ex; whether this is a result of the simplification of the game, I'm not quite sure. Still, more people playing games means more money going into games, and better games... Surely?

Maybe not. Any time large amounts of money get involved, the level of risk aversion goes up. This doesn't happen just in the videogame industry; look at Hollywood. Even in my line of work, Railway Engineering, we get little innovation as companies can't afford to take the financial risk. We end up with bland, homogenised games/films/trains.

Anyway, I'll think on this some more and probably post about it sometime in the future.
